Warranty Policy
Effective date: August 7, 2026
Legacy Garage Door Depot stands behind the springs we sell. This Warranty Policy explains what we cover, what we do not, and how to file a claim. It applies to purchases made from Legacy Garage Door Depot through https://legacygaragedepot.com and at our Sacramento and Santa Clara locations.
1) Five-year limited spring warranty
We provide a five (5) year limited warranty, measured from the original date of purchase, on the following products against defects in materials and workmanship under normal residential or commercial use:
- Torsion springs
- Extension springs
- Commercial springs
This warranty is a parts replacement warranty. If a covered spring is found to be defective, we will supply a replacement spring of the same or equivalent specification at no charge for the part itself.
2) What this warranty does not cover
This warranty is limited to the spring itself. It does not cover:
- Normal cycle wear. Springs are wear components rated for a finite number of open-and-close cycles. A spring that has reached the end of its rated cycle life has performed as designed and is not considered defective.
- Labor or installation costs, including removal of the failed spring and installation of the replacement.
- Damage to anything other than the spring, including the door, panels, tracks, cables, drums, opener, vehicle, contents of the garage, or the surrounding structure.
- Improper installation. Springs must be installed by a qualified garage door professional. Springs installed by anyone other than a qualified professional are not covered.
- Incorrect sizing or specification. Springs that fail because the wrong size, wire gauge, length, or weight rating was ordered or installed for the door.
- Misuse, neglect, or abuse, including operating a door that is out of balance, binding, or missing other required hardware.
- Corrosion or environmental exposure beyond normal conditions, including coastal salt air, chemical exposure, or standing water.
- Acts of nature and accidents, including storms, flooding, fire, earthquakes, power surges, and vehicle impact.
- Modified springs, including springs that have been cut, re-wound, re-tensioned, welded, painted, or otherwise altered after purchase.
- Consequential costs, including lost time, lost income, rental vehicles, or emergency service calls.
3) Professional installation is required
Garage door springs are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury or death if handled incorrectly. Installation and replacement must be performed by a qualified garage door professional using proper tools.
Coverage under this warranty is void if the spring was installed by an unqualified person, installed without the correct hardware, or installed in a manner contrary to the manufacturer’s instructions.
4) Direct purchases only
This warranty applies only to products purchased directly from Legacy Garage Door Depot. Products bought through third-party sellers, resellers, marketplaces, or auction listings are not covered by this warranty, regardless of whether the product is genuine.
This warranty extends only to the original purchaser and is not transferable.
5) Products other than springs
Openers, hardware, controls, remotes, keypads, tracks, rollers, hinges, drums, cables, tools, and garage doors are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, where one is offered, for the term and on the conditions set by that manufacturer. Legacy Garage Door Depot does not add a separate warranty term to these products.
We are glad to help you identify the correct manufacturer and provide the proof of purchase needed to open a claim with them.
6) How to file a warranty claim
To start a claim:
- Contact us at support@legacygaragedepot.com or (916) 414-9070.
- Provide proof of purchase showing the original purchase date, along with your order number.
- Describe the failure and, where possible, include photographs of the spring in place, the door, and the mounting hardware.
- Await review. We assess each claim and may request that the spring be returned for inspection, or that the manufacturer test it, before the claim is approved.
Claims must be submitted within the five-year warranty period. Claims submitted after the period has ended cannot be approved.
7) Shipping costs on warranty claims
The replacement part is provided at no charge. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer and must be paid before a replacement is dispatched. Costs of returning a spring to us for inspection are also the customer’s responsibility.
Where local pickup is available, an approved replacement may be collected at our Sacramento or Santa Clara location at no shipping cost.
8) Inspection and approval
All warranty claims are subject to inspection. A product claimed to be defective may require inspection by us or testing by the manufacturer before a replacement is approved.
If inspection shows the failure was caused by any of the conditions listed in section 2, the claim will be denied and the product returned or disposed of at the customer’s direction and expense.
Legacy Garage Door Depot reserves the right to refuse any warranty claim that does not comply with this policy.
9) Our remedy is replacement
The sole and exclusive remedy under this warranty is replacement of the defective part. We do not offer refunds, credits, cash settlements, or reimbursement of labor under this warranty.
Where an identical spring is unavailable, we may supply an equivalent substitute of the same specification.
10) Warranty is separate from returns
This Warranty Policy covers manufacturing defects for five years. It is separate from our Refund & Returns Policy, which governs returns and refunds for unused or unwanted items within 30 days of delivery.
Restocking fees under the Refund & Returns Policy do not apply to approved warranty replacements.
11) Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Legacy Garage Door Depot shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the use, failure, or installation of any product, including damage to property or personal injury.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, all other warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are disclaimed except as expressly stated in this policy. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12) Changes to this policy
We may update this Warranty Policy from time to time. The policy in effect on the date of your purchase governs your products.
