Safety: Test the Safety Reversal After Installation
A garage door opener moves a heavy door, and its safety systems need to be set up and tested correctly.
- Make sure the door is properly balanced before connecting an opener. An opener is not designed to lift an unbalanced door.
- Install the photo-eye safety sensors no higher than 6 inches above the floor.
- After installation, test the safety reversal: the door must reverse when it meets an object on the floor.
- Keep remotes away from children and never let anyone walk under a moving door.
Follow the LiftMaster installation manual, or have a garage door technician install the opener.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a wall mount (jackshaft) opener?
Instead of hanging from the ceiling and pulling the door along a rail, a jackshaft opener mounts on the wall beside the door and turns the torsion shaft directly. It frees the ceiling for storage or a lift, and suits tall doors and garages with limited headroom.
What does my garage need for a wall mount opener?
A sectional door with a torsion spring system and torsion shaft, and enough side room beside the door to mount the unit. Check the LiftMaster installation manual for the exact clearances for your door.
Does it work during a power outage?
Yes. The included 485LM backup battery lets you open and close the door when the power is out. Replace the battery every few years to keep it reliable.
Can I add more remotes or a keypad?
Yes. See our LiftMaster remotes, keypads and wall controls. Check that the accessory supports your opener’s security protocol before ordering.
Do I need professional installation?
Many owners install their own opener, but the door must be balanced first and the safety reversal must be tested afterward. If your springs or cables need work, have a technician handle that part.
How is it shipped?
It ships by FedEx, or you can collect it from our Sacramento or Santa Clara store. See our shipping policy for current rates and dispatch times.
